I'm a foreigner lost in Japan, just rambling so I don't corrupt my English with Japanish. I've lived in Japan for a while, and I speak the language fluently (maybe a TOO fluently). I like Japanese comedy, walking and going out for drinks with the few friends I have.

Is it normal for guys to get pedicures and manicures?

Last year a friend of mine was getting married in Bangkok. The functions were mostly in the evening and since it was a short trip I thought I would make the best of it by shopping and sightseeing.
If you never been to Bangkok, I HIGHLY suggest going. In every corner there was a massage or beauty shops, especially in the shopping centers. I got curious about getting a manicure and pedicure and after looking around at the different places offering beauty services I picked one. I haggled the price down and I was ready to go. The place was empty and I had a woman on each feet, trimming and polishing my nails. Later they moved up to do my hands. While I was getting my nails done, I was talking to the supervisor. She was teasing me in broken English about my good looks and if I had any girlfriends. In return I complimented her in broken Thai. Everyone was having a good time. At the end, I paid them, tipped them, and went off admiring how clean and neat my nails were on my feet and on my hands.

Later that night, at the wedding, I told everyone that I went to for pedi and mani. The girls made fun of me that guys don't go for pedi and mani, its a girly girly thing to do. The guys said it was alright to do so and it was hygenic. I didn't have my nails painted, just polished with whatever they used and I couldn't find a reason why guys getting their nails done was so... girly. I think its just hygenic (did I spell it right?) and I'm never good at clipping my own nails anyways. I did ask other women I know whether its ok for men to get there nails done and all were alright with the fact. Not to extent of getting the nails painted in clear polish but just shined.

>>Fast forward today>>
I went to the gym in the morning. At the front desk they were giving out samples of Nivea Facial cream for men with CoQ10. The lady gave me one and I looked at it. I said I might use this already and she froze with her mouth open. As I walked to the changing room I looked back and she was laughing with her co-worker. I wasn't sure whether its from me using the cream or not but I didn't feel too good. I did check in my bag and I use Nivea aftershave lotion. (so I shave in the gym showers, I've seen guys with face mask in the sauna and guys brushing their teeth)

Here's my observation and question. It seems some women are for guys to get their nails done and others are not. So what am I supposed to do? Should I carry around dirty in my pockets just in case the girl I'm with don't like men with clean nails?

new laptop

I've finally put my Dell laptop of 6 years to rest.

It was causing trouble starting up. My harddrive wouldn't start spinning. After trying and re-trying for several minutes, including after a few freeze midway through start-up it would work.

I finally had enough and decided to buy a new laptop. I' bought a toshiba TX760/LS: intel celeron M 360J, 512 MB Ram, 100GB HD, Multi drive DVD, 15.4" screen. Its pretty nifty but everything is in Japanese and its going to take awhile to get use to the layout.
